Originally established in 1965, Cumbernauld School of Motoring has been run by Hugh Griffin since 1990. Before that, for a few years, Hugh ran a part time driving school, this gives him over 30 years of experience teaching people to drive.

A Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor (for Cars) for all of that time, Hugh has also been a long standing member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, an organisation that exists to promote safe driving and skill with responsibility. These very important driving skills are built into Hugh's lesson plans.

Hugh is also authorised to conduct the Pass Plus courses, which are recommended by the Driving Standards Agency. Additionally, Hugh has experience of British Sign Language (BSL) to Stage 1 level.

As for the driving test, his proven ability to calm nervous pupils and his high standard of tuition has contributed to the 68% first time pass rate for 2007/08. Included in that pass rate was a 62 year old woman who was successful on her first attempt at the driving test.
